Top honours for Dr. Sanjib Mohanty in recognition of his services in malaria research
Dr Sanjib Mohanty, Ex-Director & HOD of Medicine and Critical Care unit
was awarded the Sadananda Pattnaik Award for work in Malaria by the Indian
Association of Malaria & Communicable Diseases & Indian Association of
Epidemiologists at their joint annual cionference at Goa on 10th October
2014. This award was presented to him by Dr VK Katoch,
DG-ICMR-cum-Secretary to the department of medical research, Government of
India. He was previously awarded with Bill & Milinda Gates Foundation
award in Austria in 2008. He has been working in the field of malaria for
last 28 years. His area of work has been Pathogenesis of Cerebral Malaria,
Development of new Antimalarial Drugs and Optimum Fluid Therapy in Severe
Malaria patients. He has been member of the expert group on National Drug
Policy on Malaria, Government of india. Also he has been WHO faculty to
train doctors in management of Complicated Malaria. He has scientific
publications in International and National like LANCET, JID, CID, American
Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Transactions of Royal Society,
IJMR etc. with high impact factor. He has written two chaptes in Regional
Guidelines on the Clinical Management of Severe Falciparum Malaria in
Large and Small Hospitals.
Currently he is working on the mechanism of Cerebral Malaria by conducting
MRI in such patients in collaboration with New York University & NIMR as a
Consultant.
