Breaking News Online: Orissa reports first Swine Flu death, India Toll goes up to 431
Its unfortunate that we have lost one of our colleagues Dr. AK Banwar to swine flu- which may turn out to be an occupational hazard to all health care professionals. A committed physician, Dr. Banwar is highly admired by his colleagues and patients. Our heart goes out for Dr. Mrs. Banwar-also a colleague of ours and his entire family for the untimely and sad demise. May God provide enough courage to the whole of the Banwar family to bear the sad loss.

IGH bids farewell to Dr. P K Rath

Date-3rd October 2009
Venue- Conference Hall

His name symbolised progress and modernisation of Ispat General Hospital in almost all areas- technical, academic and infrastructure. There have been many doctors with vision for IGH but none has combined vision and execution so well. As the Director, Medical & Health Services, Dr. Pramod Kumar Rath dreamt of improving IGH and its services even till the evening of 30th September 2009 and probably a couple of days after that till he was given a farewell by all section of employees of IGH and its ancilliary units. An alumni from SCB Medical College, Cuttack and AIIMS, New Delhi, Dr. Rath has published many scientific papers in national and international medical journals- his area of special interest being Haematology. An academician by nature he talked on "Hairy Cell Lukemia- the past & present" to colleagues and DNB trainees in IGH on 29th September- a day before his superannuation where he insisted on colleaguesand DNB candidates to always take active interest in preparing and presenting papers.
He was an administrator with a human touch and was liked by one and all. His acid tongue was often reserved for people whom he loved the best and expected a lot from these handful few. A follower of Swami Chimoyananda, he is deeply pious and disciplined he rarely tolerates nonsense or indiscipline. But it was his humane nature that endeared to all- be it the elderly ex-employees or the young boys and girls in their teens. I have ofeten found him counselling young boys and girls with their parents for hours in his busy schedule where the situation has warranted. Deeply attched to IGH, Dr. Rath himself expressed that he was able to tslk during his farewel meeting as it was delayed by a couple of days. Sensitive and highly emotional, Dr. Rath was given a very warm farewel by his colleagues.
