Three Overseas Researchers in Malaria visit IGH-August28-30th
Three malariologists and researchers of international repute visited Ispat General Hospital on 28th, 29th and 30th August 2009 for some on-going research projects and taught the DNB candidates. They are
Prof Arjen Dondorp MD, Ph D
Oxford – Mahidol University
Bangkok, Thailand
Dr Marcus Schultz
Prof of Critical care Medicine
Amsterdam Medical Centre
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Dr Sam Dowhetry
Liverpool School of Trop Medicine
Liverpool, UK
Prof. Arjen of Oxford-mahidol has visited us many times and considered our own faculty while it was Dr. Sam's second visit. It was Prof. Marcus Scultz's first visit and he dealt with the basics of managing complicated malaria particularly with respiratory problems in our situation of resource-crunch.
The trio have combined together for a very noble purpose
A. To study the complicated malaria including Cerebral malaria and the role of acidosis
B. Training of doctors and staff in ICU care in resource poor countries.
C. Brain changes in Cerebral malaria by MRI
These researchers had lively interaction sessions with our faculties and DNB trainees.
