National Occupational Health Day Celebrations in IGH
National Occupational Health Day was observed at the Occupational Health
Services Centre (OHSC) of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in association
with Indian Association of Occupational Health (IAOH), Odisha branch, on
9th July. Mr. Gautam Banerjee, ED (Works) was the Chief Guest of the
programme while Dr. S.S.Pati, Director Incharge, (M&HS), RSP was the Guest
of Honour. Dr. B. K. Sikdar, Former Deputy Director (Medical) West Bengal
and Dr.(Mrs.) Lipika Sikdar, Former Professor (English), Junior College,
West Bengal were the Guest Speakers of the event. The theme of
Occupational Health Day for this year was "Üniversal Occupational Health
Care – Need of the Hour".
Mr. Banerjee in his address highlighted the importance of OHSC and
described it as an important mechanism of RSP which takes care of the
occupational health related issues of the employee. 'A healthy employee is
a productive employee,' he added.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Pati elaborated on occupational hazards. He
urged everyone to adopt safe working practices and take precautionary
health measures to remain healthy and productive.
During the function three eminent personalities and senior members of IAOH
(Indian Association of Occupational Health), Odisha Branch namely Dr.
Kiran Mishra, former Senior Deputy Director (Orthopaedics), IGH, Dr. B.K.
Sikdar, and Dr. (Mrs) Lipika Sikdar, were felicitated by the dignitaries
for their distinguished service in the field of Occupational Health. Mr.
Gautam Banerjee was also felicitated on the occasion.
In the Technical session, the Chief Speaker Dr. B. K. Sikdar deliberated
on the topic "Prevention of Occupational Diseases". Dr. (Mrs.) Lipika
Sikdar spoke on the topic "Basic Occupational Health Awareness."
At the outset Dr. P.K.Nanda, President IAOH, Odisha Branch welcomed the
gathering. Dr. Tarunaditya Mishra, Joint Director, OHSC and Secretary,
IAOH, Odisha Branch presented a brief report on the activities of OHSC. He
also proposed a formal vote of thanks. . Around 60 employees from
different departments attended the programme. Several
Doctors from OHSC, IGH and IAOH, Odisha Chapter and Senior Officers of
various departments were also present on the occasion.
